A detailed topographical engraving of the formidable Bohus Fortress and the town of Kungälv on the river Göta älv.
Original Latin title: Arx Bahusia cum Oppido Kongelf. After Erik Dahlbergh. From Suecia Antiqua et Hodierna. Late edition published in Stockholm, 1777.
Bohus, founded by the Norwegian king Håkon V in 1308, became Swedish following the 1658 Treaty of Roskilde and resisted fourteen sieges across its long career as a frontier fortress. This impression belongs to the late editions of Dahlbergh's work, which continued to circulate in Stockholm well into the Gustavian era as a national monument of Carolean topography.
Copperplate engraving. Sheet size approximately 30.0 × 45.0 cm. Very Good.
