An exquisite mid 17th-century engraving of Bonde Palace, the grand Stockholm townhouse of Lord High Treasurer Gustav Bonde.
Original Latin title: Illustrissimi et Excellentissimi Dn. Baronis GUSTAVI BONDE Regni Thesaurarii Palatium Holmense. Engraved by Jean Marot. Published in Paris, c. 1665.
Bonde Palace, designed by Jean De la Vallée and Nicodemus Tessin the Elder, is the finest surviving Stockholm townhouse of the early Baroque and today houses the Supreme Court of Sweden. Marot's plate, issued in his Parisian architectural compendium, played a key role in introducing Swedish patrons and architects to the latest French ideas.
Copperplate engraving. Sheet size approximately 30.0 × 40.0 cm. Very Good.
