Diana's House, Karlberg — Aveelen

A finely worked copperplate engraving of Diana's House, the elegant pavilion of the royal hunting park at Karlberg outside Stockholm.

Karlberg's deer park was a favoured retreat of the Swedish royal house, and the small Diana pavilion epitomised the Baroque blending of architecture, mythological allusion and formal landscape. Aveelen's record offers a rare glimpse of an aristocratic leisure landscape at the height of the Swedish Empire.
