An exquisite copperplate engraving depicting the grand Eriksberg estate and its formal Baroque gardens, presented from above.
Drawn and directed by Erik Dahlbergh. From Suecia Antiqua et Hodierna. Published in Stockholm, c. 1700.
Eriksberg in Södermanland was a principal seat of the Sparre family and a model of late Carolean estate management, with its parterres, orchards and tenant farms knit into a single composed landscape. Dahlbergh's bird's-eye view conveys the disciplined economic order of the Swedish noble manor as much as its architectural pretensions.
Copperplate engraving. Sheet size approximately 35.0 × 45.0 cm. Very Good.
