A striking copperplate engraving presenting two grand Södermanland estates, Fågelholm and Hanstavik, paired on a single plate.
Drawn by Erik Reitz. From Suecia Antiqua et Hodierna. Published in Stockholm, c. 1700.
Pairing two manor views on a single plate was a recurring economy in Suecia Antiqua et Hodierna, allowing Dahlbergh's project to document the dense web of aristocratic seats around Stockholm without proliferating plates. Both Fågelholm and Hanstavik appear here as well-ordered Baroque estates, their formal layouts proclaiming the cultural ambitions of the Swedish lesser nobility.
Copperplate engraving. Sheet size approximately 34.0 × 45.0 cm. Very Good.
