An intriguing antique engraving depicting the legendary helmet and spurs of Saint Olaf II of Norway, revered as a national relic and war trophy.
Olaus Rudbeck. From Atlantica (also known as Atland eller Manheim). Published in Uppsala, Sweden, between 1679 and 1702.
Atlantica was a highly ambitious and controversial work of pseudo-history, attempting to prove Sweden was the location of the lost continent of Atlantis and the origin of all civilisation. The illustrations, including this plate of significant historical artefacts, were crucial to Rudbeck's arguments, blending historical fact with mythological claims in service of Swedish national pride.
Copperplate engraving. Sheet size approximately 38.0 × 25.0 cm. Very Good condition.
