A magnificent copperplate engraving depicting the lavish Baroque interior of the Royal Chapel in Stockholm Castle, a testament to Swedish royal patronage.
Original Latin title: Delineatio Templi… in Holmensi Arce adornati. Drawn and engraved by Johannes van den Aveelen. From Suecia Antiqua et Hodierna. Published in Stockholm, 1702.
This print is a key part of Erik Dahlbergh's monumental topographical work, which aimed to glorify Sweden's past and present power through detailed architectural and landscape views. Aveelen, a Dutch engraver who settled in Sweden, took over the principal engraving duties for the project after the death of Willem Swidde in 1697.
Copperplate engraving. Sheet size approximately 40.0 × 30.0 cm. Very Good condition, with some minor edge wear and toning consistent with age.
