A magnificent bird's-eye view of Jakobsdal Palace, later renamed Ulriksdal, set within an ambitious Baroque garden plan north of Stockholm.
Original title: Jacobs Dahl. Engraved by Johannes Kip. From Suecia Antiqua et Hodierna. Published in Stockholm, c. 1715.
Jakobsdal was rebuilt for the dowager queen Hedvig Eleonora and renamed Ulriksdal in 1684. Kip, the Anglo-Dutch master of the topographical bird's-eye view, brought to Stockholm the same panoptic style he had perfected for Britannia Illustrata, mapping every parterre, fountain and tree-lined avenue with cartographic precision.
Etching and engraving. Very Good.
