An impressive architectural elevation of Kalmar Cathedral, a defining work of Swedish Baroque ecclesiastical design.
Original Latin title: Templum Cathedrale Calmariense a Rege CAROLO GUSTAVO fundatum. After Nicodemus Tessin the Elder; drawn by Erik Dahlbergh. From Suecia Antiqua et Hodierna. Published in Stockholm, c. 1700.
Kalmar Cathedral, founded by Charles X Gustav and designed by Nicodemus Tessin the Elder from 1660, is the most important Italianate Baroque church in Sweden and the only Lutheran cathedral built from the ground up in the Roman manner. Dahlbergh's plate documents Tessin's elevation drawing rather than the building as constructed.
Copperplate engraving. Sheet size approximately 30.0 × 40.0 cm. Excellent.
