A magnificent early 18th-century engraving of the courtyard of Tessin Palace, the Stockholm residence of Sweden's leading Baroque architect.
Original Latin title: Illustriff. D. Baronis N. Teffini Regiæ Aulæ Marefcalli, Primariiq. Ædific: Hortorumq. Reg. Præfecti, Palatium Holmenfe prope Arcem fitum. Engraved by Johannes van den Aveelen. From Suecia Antiqua et Hodierna. Published in Stockholm, 1705.
Tessin Palace was the private residence of Nicodemus Tessin the Younger, Sweden's most influential Baroque architect and designer of the Royal Palace. Its compact courtyard and miniature parterre garden, distilled from French and Roman models, offered a manifesto in built form of the classicism Tessin imposed on Stockholm.
Copperplate engraving. Sheet size approximately 40.0 × 50.0 cm. Very Good.
