Erik Dahlbergh was a pivotal figure in Swedish history, known for his military service, fortifications, and as the originator of the monumental topographical work Suecia Antiqua et Hodierna. Ehrenstrahl, court painter to Charles XI, was the leading portraitist of the Swedish 'Age of Greatness', and this commemorative engraving captures the grandeur of his subject.
