Matthäus Merian was a prolific Swiss-born engraver and publisher, renowned for his detailed topographical views that captured European cities and landscapes in the Baroque style. His Topographia series and contributions to the Theatrum Europaeum are invaluable historical records of seventeenth-century urban Europe and were among the most widely circulated city views of their time.
