A magnificent late 17th-century engraving of Strömsholm Palace, the great royal hunting seat of Queen Hedvig Eleonora in Västmanland.
Engraved by Willem Swidde. From Suecia Antiqua et Hodierna. Published in Stockholm, c. 1690.
Strömsholm was rebuilt from 1669 to designs by Nicodemus Tessin the Elder as a hunting lodge and stud farm for Hedvig Eleonora and remains one of Sweden's principal royal palaces. Swidde's plate offers a rare contemporary record of the Tessin building before its substantial 18th-century enlargement.
Copperplate engraving. Sheet size approximately 30.0 × 40.0 cm. Very Good.
