A magnificent copperplate engraving of the principal façade of Tessin Palace, facing the Royal Palace and Stockholm's main square.
Original Latin title: Illustriss^s D^ni Baronis et Regii Marescali N. TESSINI Palatium Holmense qua extrorsum arcem Scilicet ac Forum Spectat. Drawn and engraved by Johannes van den Aveelen. From Suecia Antiqua et Hodierna. Published in Stockholm, 1700.
Designed by Nicodemus Tessin the Younger as both his own residence and an architectural manifesto, the palace presented an austere, Italianate stone front to the city, in studied counterpoint to the lavish parterre hidden within. Aveelen's plate became one of the most-copied images of Stockholm Baroque architecture.
Copperplate engraving. Sheet size approximately 40.0 × 50.0 cm. Very Good.
