A magnificent architectural print of the temporary triumphal arch erected for the coronation procession of Queen Christina of Sweden in 1650.
Original Latin title: Arcus Triumphalis Augustissimae Reginae CHRISTINAE. After Erik Dahlbergh; engraved by Jean Marot. From Suecia Antiqua et Hodierna. Published in Stockholm, c. 1690.
Queen Christina's coronation was one of the great state spectacles of 17th-century Europe, marked by ephemeral architecture conceived in the language of Roman triumph. Erik Dahlbergh, Sweden's leading military engineer and topographer, recorded the arch decades later for inclusion in Dahlbergh's monumental survey of the Swedish realm.
Copperplate engraving. Sheet size approximately 30.0 × 40.0 cm. Very Good.
