Suecia Antiqua et Hodierna was a monumental topographical work that aimed to glorify the Swedish Empire through views of its noble estates, palaces and cities. Plates such as this one celebrate the formal Baroque garden as an emblem of aristocratic power and continental refinement in late seventeenth-century Sweden.
