An impressive early 18th-century copperplate engraving offering a panoramic view of Uddevalla, an important port on the west coast of Sweden.

After Erik Dahlbergh; engraved by Johannes van den Aveelen. From Suecia Antiqua et Hodierna. Published in Stockholm, 1713.

Uddevalla had passed from Norway to Sweden following the 1658 Treaty of Roskilde and rapidly became a flourishing centre of Bohuslän shipping and herring trade. Dahlbergh's record of the town in Suecia Antiqua et Hodierna provided a visual claim of Swedish dominion over the newly acquired western provinces.

Copperplate engraving. Good.
