A magnificent copperplate engraving capturing the grandeur of Wrangel Palace on Riddarholmen, one of Stockholm's most prominent Baroque residences.
After Erik Dahlbergh; engraved by Jean Marot. From Suecia Antiqua et Hodierna. Published in Stockholm, c. 1690.
Wrangel Palace was built for Count Carl Gustaf Wrangel, a leading Field Marshal of the Swedish Empire, and served briefly as the seat of the royal court after the Tre Kronor fire of 1697. Marot's engraving exemplifies the dissemination of Baroque architectural ideals through the great topographical projects of the era.
Copperplate engraving. Sheet size approximately 30.0 × 40.0 cm. Very Good.
