A luminous chromolithograph of the 'Ananas Renette' apple, its golden skin and russeted flush rendered with exceptional tonal subtlety.
From Deutsche Pomologie by Wilhelm Lauche, Plate 87. Published in Berlin, 1882.
The Ananas Renette — named for its supposedly pineapple-like aroma — was among the most esteemed dessert apples of the nineteenth century. Lauche's chromolithograph captures the variety at the height of its popularity, when German pomology was producing some of the finest fruit illustration ever printed.
Chromolithograph. Sheet size approximately 29.7 × 21.6 cm. Excellent.
