A vivid French advertising poster celebrating the harvest traditions of Burgundy, featuring a grape picker at work in the vineyards of Mercurey.
Original title: Grands Vins de Bourgogne, Antonin Rodet, Mercurey. Published by Elvinger, Paris, c. 1940. With a printed note apologising for limited deliveries of fully matured stock.
Antonin Rodet, founded in Mercurey in 1875, became one of the most prominent négociants of the Côte Chalonnaise. This sheet captures the romantic visual codes that French wine houses deployed to associate their bottles with tradition, terroir and rural authenticity. The wartime delivery notice adds a poignant historical layer, reflecting the disruption French viticulture faced during the early 1940s.
Chromolithograph. Sheet size 39.4 × 29.3 cm. Very Good.
