Jean d'Ylen (1886–1938) was among the foremost French poster artists of the interwar period, celebrated for his successor role at the Vercasson firm following Leonetto Cappiello. His preparatory designs in ink and watercolour are highly sought after as one-off artworks that reveal the working process behind the finished printed poster. This sheet exemplifies his confident, decorative draughtsmanship.
