A densely packed assemblage of military and civic attributes — helmets, standards, and trophies — arranged as an emblematic still life.
Plate 67, Livre 7e. Designed and engraved by Jean-Charles Delafosse. From Nouvelle Iconologie Historique ou Attributs et Emblêmes sur tous les Sujets. Published in Paris by Jean-François Daumont, c. 1770.
Delafosse's livres d'attributs compiled trophies for every conceivable subject — war, peace, the arts, the seasons — each readable at a glance through its iconographic apparatus. They were among the most-pillaged pattern sources for Louis XVI furniture mounts, fireplace surrounds, and ceiling roundels in the 1770s and 1780s.
Hand-coloured copperplate engraving. Sheet approximately 46.6 × 33.6 cm. Excellent.
