An allegorical personification of Holland, paired with maritime trophies and the heraldry of the United Provinces against a low coastal horizon.
Original title: La Hollande. Plate 41. Designed and engraved by Jean-Charles Delafosse. From Nouvelle Iconologie Historique ou Attributs Hieroglyphiques. Published in Paris by Jean-François Daumont, c. 1770.
Delafosse's national allegories form one of the richest sequences in the Nouvelle Iconologie, condensing each country into a portable visual brief — Holland through trade, ships, and the Lion of the Republic. The series was widely copied for tapestry cartoons and academic drawing manuals.
Hand-coloured copperplate engraving. Sheet approximately 46.6 × 33.7 cm. Very Good.
