An elegant hand-coloured engraving pairing the trade attributes of carpentry and trellis work in Delafosse's signature ornamental frames.
Drawn and engraved by Jean-Charles Delafosse. Plate 107 from Nouvelle Iconologie Historique, ou Attributs Hiéroglyphiques, published by Jean-François Daumont, Paris, c. 1773.
Among the final plates of Delafosse's pattern book, this sheet belongs to a series devoted to the mechanical arts and crafts. Saws, squares, compasses, and latticework are arranged as heraldic trophies — a characteristic fusion of workshop tools with the elevated grammar of Neoclassical ornament that made the Iconologie a touchstone for artisans across Europe.
Hand-coloured copperplate engraving. Sheet approximately 46.4 × 33.8 cm. Very Good condition.
