Original title: Cours des Monnoyes. Grammaire. Plate 95. Engraved by Robert Bénard. From Encyclopédie, ou dictionnaire raisonné des sciences, des arts et des métiers. Published in Paris, c. 1770.
Diderot and d'Alembert's Encyclopédie (1751–1772) was the great editorial project of the French Enlightenment, with eleven companion volumes of plates documenting trades, sciences, and abstract concepts. Bénard engraved several thousand of these plates, making him perhaps the most prolific image-maker of the eighteenth century.
