A vibrant hand-coloured engraving of paired ornamental panels drawn from Delafosse's celebrated pattern book of allegorical and architectural motifs.
Drawn and engraved by Jean-Charles Delafosse. Plate 82 from Nouvelle Iconologie Historique, published by Jean-François Daumont, Paris, c. 1771.
Delafosse was a pivotal figure in the passage from Rococo exuberance to Neoclassical restraint. His decorative panels — arranged with the symmetry and weight of wall ornament — were adopted by cabinet-makers, stucco-workers, and bronzeurs throughout Europe, giving the Iconologie a working life far beyond the printed page.
Hand-coloured copperplate engraving. Sheet approximately 46.4 × 34.4 cm. Very Good condition.
