A fascinating early 18th-century engraving capturing two significant historical and natural sites in Sweden's Västergötland region.
Drawn and published by Samuel von Kœseler in Stockholm, 1705. The Latin titles are: Vestigia hodierna vetustißimæ arcis et Vestrogothicorum Regum sedes Edaberg, cum facie locorum vicinorum. Sita est illa in fluvio Gotha, in Vestrogothia. and Deliniatio præcipiti Ællestupa dicti in monte Hœchlaberg: nec non loci illius famosi, ubi olim oblationes fiebant Diis gentilium, hodie Hællewads Skenar vocati, prope Rannum in Vestrogothia.
This print is an important example of early topographical illustration, documenting historical sites and natural wonders with an antiquarian interest. It provides a valuable visual record of Swedish landscapes and ancient monuments from the early 18th century.
