An indelible Art Deco fantasy in which a trio of sirens lures a passing sailor with the most elegant draughtsmanship of the era.
Original French title: Le Chant des Sirènes. Drawn by George Barbier. Published in La Vie Parisienne, Paris, 1920.
George Barbier was the supreme stylist of 1920s Paris, illustrator of fashion folios for Paquin and Worth and pochoir albums for Fasquelle. His Vie Parisienne contributions sit at the apex of the magazine's Art Deco achievement: every contour decorative, every gesture poised, the mythological subject chosen for its purely ornamental possibilities.
Chromolithograph. Sheet size approximately 38.5 × 28.8 cm. Excellent.
