A striking chromolithograph of the 'Rote Bergamotte' pear, rendered with the warm tones and careful detail characteristic of the finest German fruit plates.
From Deutsche Pomologie by Wilhelm Lauche, Plate 209. Published in Berlin, 1882.
Wilhelm Lauche's Deutsche Pomologie (1882–1883) documented hundreds of fruit varieties cultivated across the German-speaking lands. Its chromolithographic plates, printed by the firm of Paul Parey, set a benchmark for pomological illustration, combining scientific precision with a painterly sensitivity to colour and form that remains unsurpassed in the genre.
