A buoyant Belle Époque allegory of the vintage month, the grape-harvester recast as a smiling Parisian beauty.
Original French title: Vendémiaire. Drawn by Henri Gerbault. Published in La Vie Parisienne, Paris, c. 1915.
Henri Gerbault was a popular illustrator of the French weeklies, his draughtsmanship balancing affectionate caricature with the elegant fashion line of the period. The republican calendar's Vendémiaire — the month of the vine harvest — provided a regular pretext for the magazine's seasonal allegories of flirtation and indulgence.
Chromolithograph. Sheet size approximately 38.0 × 28.9 cm. Very Good.
