A sly armistice-day domestic scene in which a maid and her returned soldier negotiate the new peace at home.

Original French title: L'Amour sur le Pied de Guerre. Drawn by René Vincent. Published in La Vie Parisienne, Paris, 16 November 1918.

René Vincent was one of La Vie Parisienne's most assured satirists, his sharp economical line equally at ease with motoring posters and salon flirtation. Issued in armistice week, this scene mines the humorous dislocation of demobilisation, when wartime romances had to find a footing in peacetime apartments.

Chromolithograph. Sheet size approximately 36.6 × 28.6 cm. Excellent.
