Two ornamental panels stacked on a single sheet, marrying Neoclassical urns, garlands, and antique trophies.
Plate 87. Designed and engraved by Jean-Charles Delafosse. From a suite of ornamental designs published in Paris by Jean-François Daumont, c. 1770.
Delafosse's pattern sheets stand among the most-copied French sources of the late ancien régime, lifted by Sèvres modellers, Parisian bronziers, and architects across Europe. Their measured symmetry helped to define the visual language of the goût grec as it travelled from print into furniture, plaster, and bronze.
Hand-coloured etching and engraving. Sheet approximately 46.7 × 33.8 cm. Very Good.
