A witty motoring vignette in which a flock of geese stages an indignant blockade against the new horseless carriage.
Drawn by Pem (Giuseppe Enrico Trevisan). Published in La Vie Parisienne, Paris, c. 1920.
Pem was the pen-name of Giuseppe Enrico Trevisan, a draughtsman whose elegant satires of modern life appeared in leading French and Italian periodicals. The collision of livestock and motor car was a favourite subject of inter-war illustrators, encapsulating the awkward coexistence of rural tradition and metropolitan technology.
Chromolithograph. Sheet size approximately 26.3 × 18.7 cm. Very Good.
