An exuberant trophy of the arts — palette, compass, capital, and Pegasus — rendered with Delafosse's characteristic architectural rigour.
Plate 3. Designed and engraved by Jean-Charles Delafosse. From Nouvelle Iconologie Historique ou Attributs Hieroglyphiques. Published in Paris by Jean-François Daumont, c. 1770.
Delafosse's trophy plates supplied a working dictionary of allegorical objects to artisans across Europe. This sheet — combining painting, sculpture, and architecture — became a stock reference for the decoration of academic interiors, music pavilions, and the stamped bronze mounts of Louis XVI furniture.
Hand-coloured copperplate engraving. Sheet approximately 46.9 × 34.0 cm. Very Good.
