A picturesque late eighteenth-century sheet of small landscape vignettes — bridges, classical ruins and rustic buildings — within a floral lattice.
Published by Remondini, Bassano del Grappa, c. 1780.
Picturesque landscapes with bridges and ruins were a staple of late eighteenth-century taste, popularised through the Grand Tour and through publications by Piranesi and his imitators. The Remondini workshop adapted these subjects to its decorative paper format, producing sheets that brought romantic Italian scenery into modest interiors as wall hangings, drawer linings and book covers.
Hand-coloured copperplate engraving. Sheet approximately 54.7 × 44.8 cm. Very Good.
