A delightful eighteenth-century sheet of repeated Venetian view vignettes — the Rialto and Saint Mark's prominent among them — within an ornate floral grid.
Published by Remondini, Bassano del Grappa, c. 1770.
This print is characteristic of the Remondini carte da parato, decorative papers in which famous architectural views were repeated as ornament. The Bassano workshop drew on the established Venetian tradition of vedute and translated it for a popular audience, producing sheets that served as wall hangings, drawer linings and book covers and that carried the imagery of the Serenissima into modest homes throughout Europe.
Hand-coloured copperplate engraving. Sheet approximately 54.3 × 45.7 cm. Very Good.
