An atmospheric oil-pastel park landscape, a serene moment on a sun-dappled lake where swans glide past a moored skiff.

Tranquil park and waterway scenes were a beloved subject in early twentieth-century French art, drawing on the Impressionist legacy of plein-air observation and the long tradition of the parc à l'anglaise. Pastel suited the play of light on water particularly well, its broken strokes allowing the artist to fix the shimmer of reflections without losing painterly freedom.
