A vibrant oil-pastel landscape capturing a sun-dappled road winding between lush avenues of trees in late summer light.
France, circa 1930s.
The tree-lined allée — whether park promenade or country road — was a recurring motif in French landscape painting from Corot onward, prized for the rhythm it gave to compositional perspective and the dramatic play of dappled light on the ground. In pastel the subject became almost tactile, each stroke registering as a separate flicker of leaf and shadow.
Oil pastel on paper. Sheet size approximately 64 × 80 cm. Good condition with light handling marks.
